What is the Cenacle?
The congregation derives its name from the Latin word coenaculum, which refers to the Upper Room where Jesus ate the Last Supper with his disciples. After the Ascension, Mary, the women and the disciples gathered in prayer in the upper room to await the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost “with one accord they devoted themselves to prayer” Acts 1, 14. As Cenacle Sisters we are also called to join in this mystery of prayerful expectation directed towards the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
